this is my dad
about a week ago christ was supposed to meet him at b&l's for breakfast, early, because my dad had errands to run. Christ told him he'd be about an hour, and he was, but when when he showed up dad wasn't there. turns out dad didn't want to wait so he went down the street and got his hair done.
(yes there are corn rows under there) some days later he found that do-rag which my sister had actually bought for him in cuba. He's been wearing that jacket all winter and recently discovered this new style-
also, sadly, i wasn't able to bag the elusive photo of his wrist band, but this is what it looks like and he wears it everyday.
My dad loves volvos.
he loves them like i love joan of arc. or ice cream and through some twist of fate my dad bought a volvo that's actually in minty good condition.
check out the decked-outedness
He came over last night and since i hadn't yet, he suggested we go take a spin. i know my dad, and i've been driving with him since i was born, but even he says that car has too much power. I don't have any pictures of us driving because i was busy holding on. Maybe i'm just used to it, but it wasn't scary. It really just made me happy because he was getting his perfect bowl of ice cream. While we drove around he told me things like how they were calling over drive ("o.d.") 5th gear, but they were really wrong because the the gear ratio was higher then one to one or how this was one of the premiere raleigh/rally (sp?) cars.
He eventually got paranoid that the guy behind us was going to tell the cops so we drove to the parking lot at bayers road shopping center and he told me to get out.
i figured i was getting a driving lesson on stick shift but when i got out he says "come here" with a huge smile on his face.
he kept making me stand further back, just looking at the car. then we went around to the front to do more of the same. Somewhere in between mumbled "look at that"s he said something about the wingspan. he really loves volvo's. oh also, earlier he was showing me the turning circle and in reference to mom's old car he said "fuck you ford"
i eventually got to drive and manual trasmition is the hardest. He actually did a pretty good job of hiding how angry he was at me for stalling his car so much. it started to snow.
we got a chocolate bar and he drove me home.

amazing
sio.
my dad teaching me stick involved him saying, "you have to do something like 'this' with your feet" and made this weird paddling type motion with his hands, lifting one and dropping the other.. than i proceeded to stall the hell out of his old civic.. while a bunch of loser kids laughed at me in the jr. high parking lot.
you need to just get in it and drive it by yourself.. figure it out on your own. that's how i managed.
great story though. your dad sounds like a riot, haha. i love the hair.
this is my favorite entry ever.
i remember the day he came to my house sporting that new hairdo. "does dinah know?!!?" is all i could say.
and she did know.
in other news, why is laura's name at the top of the contributors list? that's not alphabetical or anything. she barely even contributes!
